Sentence level errors is to be expected for writers. This is especially expected for writers focused on idea development in the revision process of early drafts and writing. The recognition and revision of sentence level errors is for the later stages of the writing process. At this part of the writing process writers should be able to control errors in word choice, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Learning a variety of sentence structures and naming the errors that are commonly made are practices that help a writer improve control over these types of errors.
The artifact below is from a post called proof reading my rough draft that we did in class. It is a great example of me recognizing some of the common sentence level error types I make when writing. I also name the types of errors which is one of the practices listed above to help improve control over these errors. I used different methods to fix these errors in preparation for the final.
The quote below demonstrates a common error that I tend to make in my papers with comma splices.
“A article about cross country was written on a website called Mile Split, a website where cross country runners can go to see results of races or catch up on news within the community.”
I fixed this error by taking out the comma and splitting it into two sentences.
“A article about cross country was written on a website called Mile Split. This is a website where cross country runners can go to see results of races or catch up on news within the community.”
This quote below was a run-on sentence. This is another common sentence level error I make in my papers.
“This quote built two more identities that are a of being of academic importance, but also friendly which is a little stereotypical but I have taken on both of these identities in the discourse before. “
To fix this this part of the of my rough draft I took out a section of the sentence that I thought was unnecessary. This fixed the sentence from being a run-on sentence.
“Although this role might seem a little stereotypical to newcomers grades and academics have always been of great importance on every team I have been on.”
In this post it really shows my ability of recognition of these errors. When I did see that they were errors I was able to also identify what type of error it was. This shows my ability to see this type of mistake in the other writings I will do by understanding how these errors occur and how to identify them. In my revision of them I fixed the errors, but I do think I should learn more techniques to fix them.
